What would you do if you were lied to your whole life? For young, 16-year-old Phoebe Miller, her hometown, Treedon Island, has always felt off. The leaders always seemed nervous, scared, and unsure, especially the closer it gets to Final Exam day and the Festival. The Festival was created to recognize and celebrate the well-performing students and remove the ones who failed in their academics. The festival has always held nothing but bad memories for Phoebe, and getting through her 16th festival seems nearly impossible. After supposedly failing her final exam, Phoebe and nine other failed students are sent to Black Island where she must face a terrifying truth and fight to get back to her home and keep her new friends alive. Steven Bog is a mystery to Phoebe and everyone he crosses paths with, and he is determined to keep it that way. His only goal is to get his family away from Black Island and to somewhere safe, but Phoebe knows that he he has answers and she will do anything to get them. With a war brewing between two islands, Phoebe can only hope to protect her friends, family, and the love which began to brew between her and the last person she would have ever imagined.
