Clarence Olson is desperate for work. With his father committed to an insane asylum and his older brother injured, it’s up to Clarence to save his family from losing their home. But it’s the Great Depression and jobs are scarce, especially for a sixteen-year-old. When President Roosevelt creates the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Clarence lies about his age and joins the forest camp. The excitement of being in the CCC and meeting new friends is met with back-breaking work and harsh weather conditions. When a forest fire rages out of control and two men come up missing, Clarence faces his worst fears as he battles to contain the fire and find the missing men. During his search, Clarence discovers a hidden cave. Could it be Chief Cornplanter’s secret cave and will it lead Clarence and his friends to the lost Civil War treasure they have been looking for? What starts out as an adventure amongst friends soon turns to danger. Can Clarence save them all before it’s too late
