SOLITAIRE 19th C. WARGAMES contains three simulation games covering conflicts in the last half of the 19th century. It is Vol. 6 in the Minden Classics series of books published by Minden, each containing strategy wargames, specifically designed for solo play. The three games are: ASSAULT AT COLD HARBOR (American Civil War) simulates the Union assault taking place at the Battle of Cold Harbor in Virginia on June 3, 1864. It is a solitaire design, where the player controls the Union forces, and the game system controls the Confederate forces. The object of the game is for the player to initiate a breakthrough in Kershaw’s portion of the Confederate defensive line. It uses a small hex map of the battlefield, 70 counters, with units representing Gen. Martindale’s 2nd Division of the XVIII Corps that participated in the assault, against Confederate units of Gen. Kershaw’s Division of the I Corps. The game represents about one hour of real time. CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE (Crimean War) allows you to replay the famous charge during the battle of Balaclava, October 25, 1854. Lord Cardigan, commander of the British Light Brigade of cavalry, has received orders to attack the Russian cannons at the far end of the valley about a mile away. Charge of the Light Brigade is a solitaire game that allows you to witness the “ride of the 600" into the Valley of Death made famous by Tennyson's poem. Small map, 30 markers, GUNFIGHT AT O.K. CORRAL: October 26, 1881, 2nd ed. (American West) is a simple, solitaire game depicting the famous western gunfight occurring in Tombstone, Arizona Territory between lawmen (the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday), and cowboy outlaws (the McLaury and Clanton brothers). The player takes the part of the lawmen, and the game system handles the cowboys. The game simulates the "30 shots in 30 seconds" nature of the gunfight, in a rather in slow-motion, very tactical manner. Each man has an individually rated counter indicating his Gun Speed, Accuracy, Morale, and Eperience. This 2nd ed. of the game is similar to the 1st ed. but adds extra gunfighter ratings (such as Bat Masterson, Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickock) so you can create all manner of gunfight match-ups yourself. This edition also incudes several new optional rules, and record sheets. Though designed for solo play, the game may also be played by two players. Just scan and print the game components, grab a standard deck of cards and two six-sided dice, and you will be good to go. Designer: Gary Graber. Publisher: Minden Games.
