Solstice: A Life Story is just that. Or an approximation or impression thereof. It's the narrative arc of a life up to its point of writing, full of ghost genealogy, of florid earth, of solstice gothic, of Midsummer and St. John the Baptist, of Grady and Pearl, of crucifixion and light, of compost and hope, of desperation for purpose, of the angels of assignment, of heathen gospel seen from the rooftop moon. Gilmore is especially grateful to the three visual artists and friends whose work infuses this strange little book: Jeff Whipple, Princess Simpson Rashid and Jonathan Lux.
