I have characters all around me. The fast-footed. The broken. The overgrown. The fox-eyed. The children of the forest. The suicidal magicians. The sage smoke lovers. Someone like me. Someone like you. Something Like The Desert is a collection of coming-of-age stories that have been growing like vines in my ribs and have finally, surely, swiftly, made their way to the tip of my pen. Here, inside, I’ll invite you to sit down at my table. I’ll pour you something warm to drink. And maybe, hopefully, you’ll find a bit of familiarity between the inky lines. “Something Like The Desert makes the tangible and relatable seem ethereal and magical.” - Annabelle Praznik Kristen Hedges is a writer & illustrator living in the crooked pines of California with her daughter, her husband, & their little dog. The four of them are wildly introverted, so she spends the better part of her days in a milky silence, sipping something hot, telling Aspen slow stories of the forest while Ken takes naps and tends to the family. She attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco, and then studied Yoga & Meditation at Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Grass Valley. In 2012, the two of them bought an 120 year old Victorian house in their hometown, & they're currently in the process of transforming it into a Healing Center.
