South Dakota Warriors in Khaki is a record of the native veterans from the nine reservations in South Dakota. It includes some veterans who served in the 1920s. In the 1930 Federal Census, these men were listed as veterans of the World War. South Dakota Warriors in Khaki is a sequel to Warriors in Khaki , which is a record of the Native Americans from North Dakota who served in WWI. After some veterans from the Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota saw Warriors in Khaki, they asked us if we could do a book for the South Dakota families. Mike Knudson has been interested in history and genealogy since high school. He served in the Peace Corps in Morocco, went back to school for his master's degree, then went to work as a forester with the Soil Conservation Service (now the Natural Resources Conservation Service) in North Dakota. He retired in 2011, and now has more time for research on family and military history, especially the World War I era. Ann spent 28 years in public affairs for the North Dakota National Guard, and retired in 2011.Mike is from Wisconsin, and Ann is from upstate New York. They met in college in Syracuse, NY. They have lived in North Dakota since 1977, and raised two children there
