Christie Wright takes readers on a journey through historic Park County during Colorado’s outlaw era in the latter part of the nineteenth century. The stories of notorious criminals and descriptions of evil deeds make fascinating reading and make the book a perfect companion for exploring the South Park area. “Christie Wight knows more about the bad actors in old-time South Park than anybody but the robbers and shootists themselves. Readers are lucky that she’s chosen to put their stories in a book, many recorded for the first time. Now, we can all marvel at their mayhem and be amazed by their antics. South Park Perils is a wild and woolly ride through the history of lawlessness in the heart of Colorado.” —Charles F. Price, author of Season of Terror: The Espinosas in Central Colorado “With Christie’s careful and comprehensive research, one gets the feeling of being transported to the crime scenes, as she describes the events and the happenings surrounding each story of the misdeeds of Park County bad guys. The book makes you want to load your friends or family in the car to rush to see if you can experience the place for yourself.” —Linda Balough, Executive Director, South Park National Heritage Area “By uniquely focusing on the true stories of murders in this central Colorado county, Wright provides an untold picture of the sordid side of life that accompanied the early settlers and miners of the South Park area. Her book makes excellent use of photos and text to give the reader an insight into the human conflicts that occurred. The book should be in every local historian’s library.” —Terry Ketelsen, State Archivist of Colorado (retired) Christie Wright knows more about the bad actors in old-time South Park than anybody but the robbers and shootists themselves.
