Bill, a city boy, meets Mary Lou, a Mennonite girl on first base. The unlikely pair befriend Drysten, an Irish immigrant whose struggle in the slums of Dublin is launched into the world of 1930’s America. The three lives intertwine as they face loss, murder, and an unforgiving Great Depression. When war pauses their dreams, the men experience brutality and a longing to return home to the Summit. One wants to marry his nurse, the other embarks on a quest to rekindle his love with Niamh and find their daughter, given away at birth. The courts won’t help until a Nazi spy returns to America and provides a path. It’s a long shot, but evidence of war crimes could be the leverage.
