With Raider en route to the UK, Aidan Grifford packs up his life in Australia. With his wife, Lauren, he delivers his boat Seabird to its new home in New Zealand, but halfway across the Tasman Sea, he receives word that the Covid-19 virus has shut the world down. New Zealand and Australia have closed their borders, leaving Aidan and Lauren in limbo at sea. They are eventually allowed to enter New Zealand, but with the country in lockdown to contain the virus, their plans to move to the UK to resume Raider's racing program are shattered, and they are forced to stay in New Zealand until the borders reopen. Out of the blue, he is contacted by the CEO of Australia's Southern Cross America's Cup Syndicate. He needs a helmsman for their trial boat to assist the team's race boat, Southern Cross , to prepare for the 2021 America's Cup in Auckland. With his career as Raider's skipper on hold indefinitely, it's an invitation Aidan cannot refuse. However, his involvement turns into a double-edged sword and drags him into the murky underworld of America's Cup racing and international gambling rings where losing is a winner's game and the price of failure is death.
