When Emily asks her big sister what the word empathy means, she discovers an answer that will change how she looks at people.  Stand in My Shoes  shows kids how easy it is to develop empathy toward those around them. Empathy is the ability to notice what other people feel. Empathy is the foundation for all social skills and personal relationships, which make our lives richer and more beautiful. This book teaches young children the value of noticing how other people feel. We're hoping that many parents read it along with their children. I bought this book after my kindergartener started getting in trouble at school for being rough with the other kids. I thought the concept wouldn't make sense at her age but it worked. Since reading it (every night) she hasn't had any trouble at school. I asked her what changed and she told me it was reading this book. She asked if I would continue to read it to remind her to think about other people. I just added a few more empathy books to our rotation but this one will always hold a special place in my heart.-- Amanda, verified Amazon purchaser One way we can help kids get along, be considerate and seek kindness is by teaching them empathy. When teachers and parents ask me for book resources teaching this character trait - Stand in My Shoes is now at the top of my list. This book went above and beyond my expectations. It is concrete, kids related to the story, and it started impacting kids behavior immediately. L O V E. I would love to see a whole series of kids books from author Bob Sornson. He got this one SO right!-- Books that Heal Kids, verified Amazon purchaser Empathy is at the heart of healthy human relationships.  In this story, Emily asks her sister about empathy, and then comes to understand the concept of empathy as she looks for ways to notice the feeling of others.  Building positive emotional awareness and skills does not happen by accident, and this book is a fun read and a tool for building the social awareness that makes life better for us all.
