A historical novel of Texas pioneer and empresario Sterling Robertson from his struggle to bring a colony of Tennesseans to early Texas to his role establishing a permanent Texas Ranger force. It includes an account of relatives and friends dying at the Alamo, his participation in the Texas Constitutional Convention at which his nephew, George Childress, writes the Texas Declaration of Independence, as well as his time as a senator for the Republic of Texas.
