This book offers practical guidance for families moving across generations by sharing practices, skills and activities that can help them along this path. The 50 lessons within can each be read independently, as the family seeks help in dealing with a particular aspect of succession, family conflict, selling a family business, selecting and developing next generation leadership or helping their children manage the benefits of their family wealth by becoming stewards of the family resources. We looks the the potential "wealth" in the family as more than just financial, including spiritual, human, family and societal capital to sustain the family and leave a legacy in the family and for the community. Dennis Jaffe PhD is an advisor to families about family business, governance, wealth and philanthropy, and professor of organizational systems and psychology at Saybrook University in San Francisco. He recently completed the study Good Fortune: Building a Hundred Year Family Enterprise, published by Wise Counsel Research; this research project is entering its third phase this year. Dr. Jaffe is the author of Stewardship in Your Family Enterprise: Developing Responsible Family Leadership Across Generations; Working with the Ones You Love: Building a Successful Family Business, as well as the management books Rekindling Commitment, Getting Your Organization to Change and Take this Work and Love It, and more than a hundred management and psychology articles. In 2005 he received the Beckhard Award for service to the field from the Family Firm Institute. He has a BA degree in Philosophy, MA in Management, and Ph.D. in sociology, all from Yale University, and is a licensed psychologist.
