This book is a complete transcription of the first book of minutes for the Superior Court of Stewart County, Georgia, for the years 1829 to 1834. Its jurisdiction covered present-day Stewart, Webster, northern Quitman and southern Marion Counties. In its earliest years, it also covered the remainder of Quitman, Randolph, northern Clay, and western Terrell Counties. The minutes include juror lists, land disputes, divorces, criminal prosecutions, debts and other court cases. These records prove to be a valuable source of information about persons who lived in this area of Georgia at a time when few other records survive. Details about ages, relationships, date of decease, locations, and other facts about residents of this area can be gleaned from the information within. The full-name index includes nearly 1,000 names, cross-referenced for spelling variations. In the text, all names are in bold to assist the reader in locating them.
