But for Stacey, the glow of finding the "love of your life" corroded under the harsh reality of marriage. Instead of living happily ever after, she experienced a roller-coaster ride of obsessive love, drug addiction, and possible mental illness. Her determination to make a success of her marriage to Ray is admirable, but she discovers love does not conquer all. Even so, she did her best to help him through the good, better, and worse. Stacey writes about this period of her life with raw honesty. She draws you into the drama and pain-filled journey with no expectation of sympathy. She took responsibility for the consequences of her decisions. Particularly when she realized that she and Ray were on different paths in life. Her story proves some decisions are difficult to make when you're caught up in the vortex of a disintegrating relationship. And it is heartwarming to see her growth in character and resilience. I read her life story like someone watching a car crash in slow motion. You watch the horror unfold. You know there's only one outcome. However, you know that you have no control over the situation, as it is not your decision to make. It is a hard read because you know these are real people and that the events happened. Her family and friends were her sole source of comfort, providing the only glimmer of light in her life. Many women are not so lucky, as shown by countless news stories. Stacey defied the odds and lived to tell the tale. This story will resonate with women caught up in abusive relationships. Especially those compounded by substance abuse. Stacey's story offers hope you are not alone. That you deserve better. You are stronger than you think. A way out exists for those who seek it. If you need to remember that your experiences do not define who you are. That, while you cannot control what happens to you, you can control your response to it. Then this book is for you. This might be exactly what you need to read at the moment. - Vida Sik
