It’s happened once before, and it will happen again. In the year 2030 the Maunder Minimum, a period of solar inactivity, will cause a mini-ice age like it did between the years 1645 and 1710. When it does, Bishop will have to save her not only from the effects of severe weather but also from man himself. Maeve Tildon and her son Ben live alone in the rural town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Since her husband died in the war, she’s barely kept her head above water, and when the first freeze strikes in the fall, she’s completely unprepared for what lies ahead. Only a war-torn man, one who prefers the solitude of the Kootenai National Forest, can rescue her and her son. From the best selling author of the Graham’s Resolution series. " I read this in one sitting. It's got it all: The disaster isn't one that's been overdone, the characters don't always fit their stereotypes, and the ending actually wraps up the story while leaving room for a sequel (I hate those pay-me-more cliffhangers that just stop). Also, at some time the author must have owned a horse. Enough said. If you like apocalyptic fiction, buy this book. I'll be reading the sequel as soon as it comes out. Oh, and make some hot chocolate or tea and grab a blanket before you sit down to read - I completely lost interest in my summertime iced tea by page four :)" - Rain23 " A.R. Shaw is one of my favorite authors, so it was with some anticipation that I started her latest book, Surrender the Sun. She has an unique way of getting to the heart of a matter, that never fails to impress. Set in the near future, year is 2030, and the world is about to change in ways that are possibly truer than just the imagination of a post-apocalyptic author could dream up. The science behind this book is real, even if not much attention is paid to it; not with the huge push in the direction of global warming of the last twenty or thirty years. And the science is that the world's temperatures, at least in the northern hemisphere are actually cooling, and in the same time frame of this story, may likely turn into another mini-ice age as happened in the mid-1600s. This happens literally overnight in Shaw's version, with the countryside of the northern United States literally freezing solid in a matter of a days. How this all impacts on a young mother recently widowed due to a never-ending war and a survivor of that war makes up the basis of this story. Great action from the start, as always her characters ring true, and some pretty good observations on human behavior is thrown into the mix. Good solid book, high recommended." - india51 " A.R. Shaw has outdone herself this time. She has created a marvelous tale of what life would be like in a frozen dystopian world. Her scenes in Surrender The Sun are so realistic it gave me chills and brought back memories of my Army days living in the snow-covered, frozen wilderness in the German Alps for weeks at a time. Through her characters, you will live the struggle between those who strive to retain their civility and those who give in to their base survival instincts of survival of the fittest. Read Surrender the Sun. You will be glad you did." - Johnny Jakes, author of Absolute Anarchy " I have been waiting several months to read a new AR Shaw dystopian novel. It was worth the wait. I could not put the book down. From the first page to the last I was drawn into the story. The setting and characters were very compelling and true to life. I especially liked the backdrop of northern Idaho which added great realism to the story. I am almost sorry I didn't pace myself because now it will be a long wait until the next one." - author David Perry of Not Self but Country "...The character development is superb, digging deep into why the characters make the decisions they do. Shaw is always careful to explore the pain of solving moral dilemmas and in this one, there is no shortage of those. Both the protagonists and antagonists are realistic and believable, not some pulp-fiction caricatures of good and evil. There are some surprising turns that will have you saying "I didn't see that coming. Shaw pretty much owns the space in developing female characters in post apocalyptic fiction, and she's artfully demonstrated that once again in this book. But for all you men out there, do not mistake this for a "chick book." It's a book for anyone who wants to fairly examine how people will react in desperate situations. The buildup to the conclusion is an exciting ride that kept me eagerly turning the pages until the end. Five stars again for Shaw." - author Burt Walker of Canine Plague Graham's Resolution The China Pandemic The Cascade Preppers The Last Infidels The Malefic Nation The Bitter Earth The Wild West Surrender the Sun Bishop's Honor Sanctuary Point of No Return Dawn of Deception Unbound Undone Unbeaten Remember the Ruin Rebel Blaze Wayward State Grand Gesture   The French Wa
