When the moment comes you will either be prepared, or you will be a victim, the choice is yours. Your Doomsday May Only Affect You - Prepare Anyway! The first preparedness book I ever read was the original edition of The Survival Retreat by Ragnar Benson. We've come a long way since that seminal work in the preparedness genre, and Richard Duarte's efforts with this book clearly advance the discussion of this vital topic. When we think of "Doomsday," we tend to think of it as something that affects large sections of the population. The reality, however, is that a true emergency can be a doomsday for just one individual or family. A house fire, a serious injury while using power tools, an automobile accident - these can create devastating results for someone just as easily as a massive disaster might. It's clear Duarte gets that. If you're a "grab a gun and pray for the opportunity to have shoot outs with your neighbors when the crisis goes down" kind of prepper, you will be sadly disappointed by his rational, logical thought process on how to create a sustainable preparedness plan for you and your family. If you are looking for a systematic approach to preparedness, however - one driven by actual testing and experience and not by hype - Surviving Doomsday needs to be on your bookshelf. The gift Duarte gives his readers here is that there isn't a list of expensive items to go purchase. He provides multiple options for supplies and strategies for a wide range of budgets, making Surviving Doomsday that much more useful. He also stresses the need to "execute the basics well" as I like to say - stay healthy, get check ups, keep your home and vehicles maintained. While these may not seem exciting activities to someone getting prepared, they are absolutely necessary - and Duarte clearly demonstrates that. I highly recommend this book. Paul T. It's up to you which group you'll belong to. As far as I'm concerned, the ultimate measure of this book's success will be how many people it can help guide into the " Prepared group ." -Richard Duarte "The nice thing about failing to plan is that failure comes as a complete surprise and is not preceded by long periods of worry or concern." -Unknown Author Richard Duarte is the author of Surviving Doomsday - A Guide for Surviving an Urban Disaster .
