Whilst searching for old books on healing methods and medicine, I came across this book. I found it particularly interesting because it dealt with the methods of healing used by the Apaches. As a follower of natural healing, I found it particularly interesting to look at this book. So interesting, in fact, that I decided to publish it. (It was part of the Ninth Annual Report of the Bureau of Ethnology to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, 1887- 1888, published in 1892. Started there from page 443.) Of course, there will be one or two superstitions there, but often the superstition has its core in a true origin. As Sherlock Holmes said in Elementary: „I began exploring the notion when I recalled the writings of 19th century Russian occultist, Helena Blavatsky. To paraphrase: no myth is wholesale fable. Even the most fanciful legends begin as a small grain of truth. She was right, and thankfully so, as her words have led us directly to our culprit. “ „Over a Barrel“ , S05E13, Elementary . John Gregory Bourke (1846-1896) was an American officer, ethnologist and author. He was best known for his detailed reports on the life and culture of indigenous peoples in North America, particularly the Apache. Observer and ethnologist: During his time in the West, Bourke meticulously documented the ways of life of the indigenous peoples. He was particularly interested in their religion, rituals and customs. Today, Bourke is regarded as an important chronicler of the American West, even if his perspective as an army officer and contemporary witness to colonial expansion must be viewed critically. Bourke had - for an army officer of his time - an unusually differentiated view of the Apaches. He was fascinated by their culture but also shocked by the injustice they suffered. His closeness to the Chiricahua Apaches, who were both enemies and scouts under General Crook, is particularly noteworthy. He shows in his writings that he not only observed the complex social structure and spiritual world of the Apache but also tried to understand it - a rarity among his contemporaries.
