Dr. Sara Clarke was supposedly having another normal day when she receives a shocking call that will put her on the path of discovering the truth about herself. Her memory and true identity (as Kate Morgan) had been wiped and an entirely new one planted in its place. With the help of her new friend, Colleen Stillman, she's able to access her true memories and discovers that instead of being a regular doctor saddled with the burden of caring for her patients, she has to face the battle for the survival of humanity. Along with her friends, she faces threats from unexpected angles, presented by the Vu-Haks, an alien species, that possess - along with other abilities - the ability to possess humans and seize control of their minds. She embarks on a mission that continues to present new levels of complications at every turn. Trinity's Fall is a science fiction novel that has elements of artificial intelligence, aliens with well-developed telepathic abilities and technologies (including a sentient ship!). There is also time travel introduced in the latter part of the book with every likelihood of further elaboration in a subsequent book. Apart from the Prologue and Epilogue, Trinity's Fall written from the first-person point-of-view. It is a fast-paced story with a very fluent and fluid narrative style. The author makes extensive use of long sentences and does not waste time delving into certain details which would have made the novel lose its interesting edge and in its place, insert some boring paragraphs. An example is in the early part of the book when Stillman helps Kate Morgan (Sara Clarke) regain her memory by hypnotizing her - Vasey spares us the details. Despite the fact that this book is the second in a series, it is quite easy to follow the story without having read the first book. The story unfolds at a breathtaking pace that makes pausing difficult. The end of every chapter seamlessly catapulted me into the next chapter. There is a decent amount of humour in the book. In addition to the thrilling and suspenseful entertainment, Trinity's Fall is a thought-provoking book. One of many thoughts evoked is the question of power. Kate Morgan in the novel thinks to herself: "I marveled at the technology that had existed in the Vu-Hak's past, and what they must have achieved. And yet, rather than benevolence, they used their incredible knowledge for conquest...destruction of every other species...I found myself wondering whether this was hard-wired into their DNA...and therefore was just the natural consequence of their evolution. Or was this the inevitable end result of attaining god-like power, irrespective of the species - humanity included?" According to Lord Acton, "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely." Does Power really corrupt or does it simply reveal the true nature of people? If it is the latter, does it then follows that Power has an attractive force that attracts those with sociopathic tendencies? The story also touches lightly on bioethical issues concerning cloning, humanity, and the transfer of consciousness to machines. Using science fiction, Vasey weaves together a beautiful story that captures some of the everyday problems of human lives. The story has an interestingly enticing ending. All fans of science fiction and thrillers who enjoy readi
