In her seventh adventure, Denver's intrepid dry-cleaner/sleuth, Mandy Dyer, encounters a baffling case of mistaken identity---or is it? After dining at a local mountaintop restaurant, Mandy's friend Laura discovers that someone has taken her coat and left another in its place. The only clue to the owner's identity is an unfamiliar dry-cleaning mark. Mandy's casual inquiries turn serious when a dead body is discovered dressed in Laura's missing coat. An investigation of the remote and forbidding crime scene puts Mandy right in the path of a mysterious mountain ambush and a very slippery foe. Protagonists of today's mystery series hold down jobs ranging from stripper to postal clerk to rock star--so why not dry cleaner? Luckily, Johnson realizes that the day-to-day details of Mandy Dyer's cleaning operation might not be so scintillating and uses the business mostly as a backdrop. In the seventh adventure in the series, Mandy uses a dry-cleaning tag to track down a woman whose coat was switched with that of Mandy's cousin Laura. Then the woman is found murdered, and Laura is struck by a hit-and-run driver, convincing Mandy that the coat switch has prompted the violence. Customers at the restaurant where Laura lost her coat provide plenty of colorful suspects. Although the mystery itself is not too difficult to solve, Johnson's ability to infuse comedy into the plot will keep readers chuckling. Good, clean fun.
