The heroine Nurani grew greatly as a woman and became a mainstay of the harem of the royal family in perilous times. She was the savior of the royal court ritual when it was faced with extinction. Her establishment of the “little palace” where the young son of the martyred sultan was ensconced and kept safe for the period when good times should reappear. The cover portrait is that of a young Malay woman and provides a likeness to Nurani, a leading character of the novel series. The portrait appeared on-line and is used with the permission of the publishers of the photo. The author, Emery Buxton studied Southeast Asian history at McGill University and undertook research for his academic study titled Sultans, Shamans and Saints (Hawaii, 2007). He is also the author of two historical novel series: An Unwanted War (Las Vegas 2018, 4 v.) about the Korean War and A Reporter’s War (Riverside, 2024, 3v.) about World War I in the Middle East.
