I know for me when I initially started paying attention to what I was eating and how it affected me was on the road to recovery from my injury in college. My health mentor, who was an NBA trainer at the time and plant-based himself, told me to try it out just to see how I felt. It was more of an experiment than anything. All I knew was I was trying to get back to 100 percent to play again and would have done just about anything to get there. What started as a few days grew into weeks and then into months. I started to feel lighter after meals and actually felt like I was gaining energy as opposed feeling like I had to sit down for hours following a meal. Weight that I didn’t know I was trying to lose fell off in the best way. It felt as if my body was optimizing itself right before my eyes. Aside from recovering quicker, having less inflammation and physically healing, the biggest surprise from making the switch was how clear I felt mentally. I felt clearer than ever, sharp, present and had a deep understanding within that this newfound power came from the lifestyle choices I was making.
