This volume concerns Book of the Dead Spells 147 and 148. The first of these resumes the vital information about the names of the gatekeepers, guardians, and heralds of the different gates and portals in the underworld through which the deceased must pass in order to reach Osiris and stay with the sun-boat. Knowledge of these names gives the deceased the power to get past the various protectors of said gates and portals. BD 148 is more solar in nature and provides the names of the cows and their bull, the names of the four oars, and the names of gods, all of whom control access to the sun-god Re. Similar to the spells examined in previous volumes of the SPBDStudies series, one can observe subtle changes in the development of the texts as well as the accompanying illustrations in the Saite Period through Ptolemaic documents. An additional chapter provides photographs and observations on the versions of texts and illustrations at the backend of the important papyrus Louvre N 3249 (hereafter known as N3249), where photos had not been available for Volume 8 (BD 129-143), Volume 9, Part 1 (BD 144-146), and Volume 10 BD 151-165). As always, Volume 1 is required to understand the methodology and conventions used throughout Volume 9.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
