A full college class on creating comics... in a graphic novel! Learn the secrets of the trade while attending an actual class. By two professors of the Savannah College of Art & Design with a class of their best seniors. Adult/High School– The Bristol Board Jungle follows the students and professors of a college-level Creating Comics class at the Savannah College of Art and Design. The students learn about storytelling, characterization through figure drawing, effective sequencing, line quality, and other basics. Most of their education comes via the professors' comments on the students' assignments. In between classes, readers also learn a bit about the characters' personal lives and aspirations. Each chapter is illustrated by a different former student of these real-life authors/professors. The bookbelongs in a similar category as Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics (Kitchen Sink, 1993), though it doesn't cover its subject matter with nearly as much breadth or depth. A lighthearted complement to a more in-depth work on comics writing and technique. –J. M.
