Do you really know what your dog is eating? Making your own healthy homemade dog treats and meals lets you control what goes into his or her body thereby ensuring a nutritious snack or meal from wholesome foods which are vital to a long and vibrant life without chemicals, additives, or fillers.  Do you know which foods are dog friendly and which ones are harmful? Do you know which spices and herbs provide not only flavor but healthy benefits? Do you know how to prepare vegetables and grains for better absorption? This informational cookbook answers all of these questions and is appropriate for first-time dog parents who want to make homemade treats once in a while or more experienced dog parents who cook for their pets every day as the author sustains a central focus on nutrients and balances this content with creative, fun and decadent ingredients to inspire readers into creative cooking. I'm going to set aside my jealousy that Debby completed an amazing cookbook - AMAZING. I would love to be petty and not mention it because I'm wallowing in envy, but then I couldn't scream about what a great cookbook she created and the recipes aren't the best part (although they're great!). The best part of The Canine Chef Cookbook are the sections at the beginning that list healthy and unhealthy ingredients, safe herbs and spices, safe flours, and a ton of other tips. This is one of the few cookbooks I've found that discusses raw bones without demonizing raw feeders. I ordered it on Kindle and now plan to buy a hardcopy because this is one of those books that you'll bookmark, highlight, and make notes in for years. - Kimberly Gauthier, Dog Nutrition Blogger at Keep The Tail Wagging AWARDED 5 STARS Bananaramas, now there's a tongue twister. Sound tasty? Well, ask Kirby, or make them for your favorite pooch and ask him or her. It's a dog treat and it is made with healthy, wholesome and very natural, fresh ingredients: oat flour, brown rice flour, egg, ground flax seed, dry milk, mashed bananas, pure vanilla extract and sea salt (not table salt as it's not safe for dogs). "Just enough sweetness to satisfy that sweet tooth and a whole lotta goodness!" Nutritional guide included, and the would-be dog treat baker will learn that: "Bananas are very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium and manganese, and a very good source of vitamin B6." Author Debby Martin has fostered 12 dogs over the years. Shocked by the increasing number of additives in commercial dog food and the increasing number of recalls, she started making her own dog food, from treats to well-balanced, nourishing meals, which she provides on a rotational diet. The Canine Chef Cookbook is a culinary treat for dog owners. Complete with useful information on what a dog needs in his/her diet and what's safe and not safe, this book is an excellent resource to guide canine chefs-in-the-making. Each recipe is easy to follow and includes important nutritional information as well as safe preparation and storage notes. Need to know what quantities to feed your dog? Debby gives a usable guideline for that as well. A real treasure of dog treats and dog nutrition.
