Cold, wet, and hurt, Travis Tipton must flee from Confederate soldiers to save his life. Lost in the backwoods of Tennessee, Travis survives a massacre in a most unusual way. His survival depends upon grit, luck, and faith. Inspired by an authentic Civil War rifle that has been passed down in the Tipton family, The Canteen was written based upon historical events, folklore, and imagination. Growing up in Indiana, Trevor Tipton fell in love with local history. He spent forty-three years as a classroom teacher and storyteller. Trevor kept history alive and interesting for his students and keeps it interesting still for his children and grandchildren. In his free time, he collects Native American artifacts, especially those from northeast Indiana. Trevor also takes his stories of native history and local battles into the community. The Canteen is Tipton’s first attempt to convert his storytelling passion into a book.
