This book is a summons to action on the part of America's school boards, a clarion call for a K-12 curriculum that has, at its base, values education in CORE DEMOCRATIC VALUES, short for 'civics & history education.' More than ever before, the need for values education across America's public schools has never been more critical. American democracy is in deep peril. Given the erosion of civics education in the last half-century, Abraham Lincoln's fervent hope for an everlasting democracy is in serious jeopardy. Before all is lost, it is time to reimagine the purpose of K-12 education and get back to basics, to America's core democratic values and constitutional principles. We want our youth to learn not just academics but also civic engagement and the duties of citizenship. A renaissance in civics education at the K-12 level can serve as the crucial propellant for the fortification of American democracy, preserving for generations to come the blessings of liberty.
