“This is not a mother you want to mess with,” says the district attorney of San Diego, Summer Stephan. Nothing could have prepared Josephine and her family, for the news that her daughter, Krystal, had been murdered. The bottom fell out of her world. Unable to rest, and allow the police force to hunt down the killer on their own, she threw herself into the hunt. From contacting the American President and foreign Embassies, to appealing to people through social media, Josephine is full-on 100% tracking down her daughter's killer! She won't stop until he is behind bars, and justice has been served for Krystal and her two small children. Written with two aims in mind: 1. Catch Krystal’s killer, and 2. Show families of other victims that they too can help bring killers to justice! Josephine takes the reader through the investigation and police procedures with a critical, straight-talking attitude recording the steps of an international man-hunt investigation. This is her story so far. Read The Chase to engage with Josephine’s progress so far. This gripping true-crime book is a riveting memoir of a mother’s hunt for her daughter’s killer. A Note from the Editor During my time as an editor I have had the pleasure of working with a lot of great authors and a ton of super books. But I have never felt so honored to work on a book as I have been with The Chase. Josephine's story is both moving and gripping. Her loss has been poured not only into the search for her daughter's killer, but also into creating this amazing book. She has a flair for writing and I hope to read more of her books in the future. The goal of the book is not only to tell her story, but to help, encourage and empower the families of other victims. Her website Angels of Justice will be funded in part by the royalties from this book, a testament to Josephine's endeavors to help others. A truly fascinating and inspiring true crime novel, utterly compelling - not to be missed! A mother with a thirst for justice and determination to 'never give up' takes us through her journey of heartache and red tape, and her tenacity to press forward. Learn how she pushed her daughter's case up to US Marshal Top 15 Most Wanted, and partnered with them to hunt down the man who killed her daughter. Read about her bravery as she faces up with murderers, terrorist and masterminds in Central America. "We're not going to let this defendant run from justice and get away with murder," said District Attorney Summer Stephan. "Now that the case has been elevated by the US Marshals and the reward for information is increased, it's our hope that someone will come forward so McLeod can be captured, returned to San Diego and held accountable for his brutal crime." "Raymond McLeod will be the first fugitive in history on our 15 Most Wanted list with an initial reward of up to $50,000," said US Marshal Service Director Donald Washington. "We want McLeod's new status as one of the 15 Most Wanted fugitive, and the $50,000 reward amount, to be broadcasted far and wide. McLeod poses a significant threat to the public and must be brought to justice." 'The Deadly Poser' Raymond (RJ) McLeod seems like a knight in shining armor to one single mom, but as John Walsh reveals, she was far from safe. San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan said at a news conference that Wentzel, who is now raising her grandchildren, has been 'extremely helpful' generating tips in the case. "This is not a mother you want to mess with," she said. Investigations revealed that the suspect had a habit of strangling women in his life. At the time of Mitchell's killing, Raymond McLeod had a pending case in Riverside County, California, in which he was accused of strangling his wife. In the Riverside County case, according to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan, the victim survived only because friends present interrupted the strangling. McLeod also had a prior conviction in Phoenix, Arizona for domestic violence against another wife, according to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan. His failure in the Riverside County case, according to Stephan, "set the scene for what would be a deadly trip to San Diego," she said. Krystal's case was featured on many TV shows: Access Hollywood, America's Most Wanted, In Pursuit with John Walsh, Nancy Grace, Unsolved Mysteries, Still a Mystery, Crime Watch Daily and newspapers from all over the world including Univision.
