Welcome to the Family. Meet the sisters, who at the ripe age of 17, must decide at the Choosing Ceremony their defining role within a cult that is deeply embedded in the woods and cut off from society. This role will control every aspect of their lives for as long as they may live. They get three choices: Martyr, Maiden, or Matriarch. Martyr is a means of sacrifice to demonstrate altruistic devotion to The Family's chosen god, Mother Gaia, the Goddess of Nature. Maiden is the choice to become one of the many brides of Father Bradley and live in even further servitude to him than the other congregants, if even possible. Matriarch is the responsibility to keep the members in line, offering spiritual guidance and doling out punishment when necessary. Vera's mother has been training her to be the next favorite Maiden for her entire life. It's all a mother could want in The Family. To get to watch her daughter make the most important decision of her life. But when Vera gets up on the stage to make her decision, she's not so sure what she should choose. She just knows she's going to make Father Bradley pay for his sins, and she'll show him the same mercy and kindness he shows to others.
