Coed Naked was arguably the most popular t-shirt brand in the 1990's selling over 10 million t-shirts in over 12000 retail doors throughout the United States and Canada. When I started Coed Sportswear with two partners after graduating from The University of New Hampshire in 1990, I had no idea that our Coed Naked line of tees would leave an indelible mark on the apparel culture of the 90's. Selling over $33 million worth of tees in the first 4 years we were in business, my partner and I were named, The Small Business Administration's "Young Entrepreneur's of the Year" and were celebrated at a White House ceremony with Bill Clinton in May of 1995. The company was on top of the world. We were on top of the world with seemingly no end in sight. Until suddenly everything seemed to fall apart. The" Coed Naked Truth" is the story of Coed Naked's rise to fame, detailing many great stories and important business decisions that were made along the way. But it is also a story of controversy and struggle that would force our team of young entrepreneurs to learn the harsh lessons of running a small business and to learn what it takes to survive when the deck is stacked against you. It is the story of Coed Sportswear after Coed Naked as the company redefined itself 3 times over 3 decades while surviving massive decline, failed banking relationships, changing partnerships, the great recession and even Covid 19. Lastly it is a story about people. My employees that survived the wild Coed ride and who would leave an indelible mark on me.
