In 1679 a fleet of Buccaneers gathered off the northern coast of Panama. They planned to recreate Henry Morgan's greatest raid and attack the city of Panama. Thus begins The First Pacific Adventure. Their journey would take them through the lands of the Guna people of Darien, into the Bay of Panama, and then on to Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Peru. They endured battles with the Peruvian Navy, mutiny, enchanted islands, fantastic beasts, blazing equatorial heat, and freezing Antarctic cold. For three years they roved the Pacific coasts of Central and South America, always under threat of Spanish attack and always searching for plunder. The pirates that undertook this adventure have been largely forgotten. William Dampier would go on to be a respected naturalist, but he was accompanied on this voyage by John Cook, Edward Davis, and Lionel Wafer. Their fleet was riven by strife, with another faction including Pirate Admiral Richard Sawkins and his successor Bartholomew Sharp. Sharp was a divisive element, championed by the author of this narrative, Basil Ringrose. In the end the pirates went their separate ways to widely differing ends.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
