The loss of a grandparent is devastating to many children. In this case it is my grandmother that we lose. There is nothing like a heart being broken by the loss of a loved one, but here are many happy memories, too. She was called Grandmother, the family was proper, no one was allowed to use the word, “grandma”, only grandmother. Slick nicknames like Poppy, or Grams, Nonie, or Big Mama did not bode well a hundred years ago as they do now in the South. This is only one tale of many to come in the Southern Short Stories Series.
