This is an up-dated version of the original blog and subsequent e-book diary of the journey taken by my wife and I between 2006 and 2010, to resurrect and renovate a derelict, family owned, traditional Irish stone cottage, in a rural and tranquil surrounding. From an empty shell to somewhere where we could live and/or use as a business opportunity in the years ahead. Neither of us had any building experience, so it was a steep learning curve as to how to tackle the project, in what order and with what materials and leaning on any available expertise within the larger family group. We came to the project from the relative security of the London financial world, with idea's of promoting the use of sustainable materials and not knowing if they would work or not. This up-dated version includes additional before and after photographs and judgements made with the benefit of a skill called hindsight. It is not intended to be a bible of how to do a similar project, but hopefully will show what we did right and what we could have done differently and so help guide anyone contemplating a like minded renovation. So come on in, see and read how we got on and how the journey has progressed.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
