"Serendipity is the heart's way of finding what the mind doesn't know it wants." Aidan Perez has spent years not quite arriving. He built a global tech company in the south of France. He navigated the exit he had long been working toward. He moved to Singapore to be near his daughter — who has since moved on. He has built everything he set out to build. He just can't remember what any of it was for. Then he stumbles on a small, anonymous manuscript at his favourite restaurant. A booklet called Five Steps to Joyful Wisdom , left as if by accident, written as if for him. Obsessed with finding its author, he embarks on a search through Singapore's humid, disorienting streets — through temples, rainforest walks, and an unlikely community of seekers — and deeper into questions about who he has been, and who he is becoming. What he cannot yet see is that the manuscript has been finding him for longer than he realises. And that the search for its author will lead him somewhere he has been avoiding for years. This is not a book about grief. It never uses the word. But something in it finds the reader before the reader finds it. The Eagle That Drank Hummingbird Nectar is a novel about the cost of absence — and the strange, irreversible grace of finally paying attention. "Aneace Haddad's message has the power to enhance and transform lives, giving readers the clarity they need to choose between what comes into their lives and what to leave behind." — The Book Commentary "A compelling and practical book on modern mindful leadership." — Kirkus Reviews "A uniquely eye-opening professional guide." — SPR "An enchanting book for those who want to transform themselves and lead enriching lives." — Readers' Favorite "Its lessons are inspirational." — Clarion Reviews "Fans of The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma will be delighted to read it." — The Book Commentary "Serendipity, according to the author, is 'the heart's way of finding what the mind doesn't know it wants.' This interweaving of heart and mind is a recurring element of Haddad's powerful work, which compellingly fuses elements of a novel, a spiritual guide, and a leadership manual." — Kirkus Reviews "Life transitions are often uncomfortable, even brutal, but Haddad discusses change in a gentle, guiding way. Delivering his teachings through a fictional narrative, he deftly shows how such a mental shift could improve those in midlife and mid-career." — Independent Book Review " The Eagle That Drank Hummingbird Nectar is like no other book in its genre. Blurring the line between fiction, allegory, and self-help, this masterfully penned book probes into the stagnation that can strike anyone, from any life path, and then gently nudges readers into revelation. This is a creative and genre-blurring book that has wisdom for everyone, whether entrenched in the world of business or not, for a uniquely eye-opening professional guide." — SPR "[This book] is full of innovative ideas and the unusual and refreshing approach to its subject warrants close reading." — IndieReader Writing a novel about personal transformation is one of the more challenging things I've done; completing it drove my own self-transformation. I didn't want to write a "teachy" book, but I did want to explore topics that I address every day in my leadership work. The hardest part of my own self-transformation was finding the right voice that could convey the story without sounding like a lecturer. "You're teaching," my inner voice would shout. "And now you're lecturing — stop it!" I had to let go of lots of stuff — identity labels, experience and authority from the past, and more. The same five-step framework described in my novel helped me gradually develop what I hope is a more engaging and neutral voice, inviting people to their own journey, rather than telling them what to pack and where to go. As my protagonist, Aidan Perez, says, "Imagine where your life might go next, free of guilt, shame, or whatever it is you want to let go of. With lightness in your step, and the wind under your wings, oh what sights you must see. May your wings carry you high, and may you dance in the sky." Listen to him — he's a lot wiser than me, and he learns from his mistakes much faster than I ever have. I hope you enjoy my book!
