Glenn C. W. Ames, born in Elmira, New York, was an only child who grew up in the 1940s and '50s on a small dairy and sheep farm in northern Pennsylvania, where he helped his parents raise cows, sheep, chickens, and other livestock. At an early age, he learned to drive a team of horses, cutting hay, plowing fields, and planting and harvesting crops. After graduating from high school, he attended Mansfield State College. In 1964, Glenn joined the Peace Corps and served in rural Venezuela. Upon returning to the U.S., he attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University and the University of Tennessee. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of the University of Georgia, where he taught agricultural economics and international trade. As a researcher, project leader, and consultant, he has traveled widely in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. This book is a collection of his stories from his childhood and travels.
