A beautifully illustrated study of French-style gardens combines 150 full-color photographs with detailed maps and plans, into an intriguing look at some of the major gardens of Europe, including Versailles, the Tuileries, Saint Cloud Marly, and Villandry in France, Queluz in Portugal, Peterfhof in Russia, and the Hapsburg's Sch÷nbrun. Jean-Pierre Babelon, a member of the Institute, has been, for the past seven years, President of the Museum and the National Domain of Versailles. After the storm of February 1990, he initiated the enormous program of renovation of the garden. His research has concentrated on the architecture, urbanism, and history of Paris. He is the author of several volumes on these subjects, as well as Versailles: Absolutism and Harmony (Vendome, 1998). Mic Chamblas-Ploton is an independent journalist who has collaborated with many journals and magazines, as well as the author of many books, including several historical garden books with Jean-Baptiste Leroux.
