The itinerary inlcuded Havana and Rome and, when there was nowhere else to sleep, a rest stop at the end of a freeway exit. Choko did a book, The Future of Boxing, at his own expense and out of a deep passion for a sport not often given much of a future at all anymore. Compelling photos, only augment the text. The beauty of Choko's slick, 324-page production is in what the fighters say, even in how they say it. The book might be designed for a coffee table. Make sure it's a very big table, by the way. But the fighter's words - faithfully translated in tone and context by Choko - give it a hearbeat. Completed with chapters on all other aspects of the sport, in a comprehensive loot at boxing, Choko's book ties today to yesterday. Choko is not without some of his own suggestions for change. --Norm Frauenheim - The Ring Magazine December 2012 issue For Alexandre Choko, the lure was the lore. The Montreal-based Choko, a former amateur boxer, has quite literally established himself as the pound-for-pound champion of Canadian ring writers with this month s release of The Future of Boxing, a mammoth 324-page hardcover compilation of interviews and stunning photography that weighs in at a staggering eight pounds. The end product of Choko s five-year odyssey is a knockout, to say the least. It started out as a two-year journey that took five years to complete, Choko states on the 30-minute DVD tucked into a pocket on the inside cover of his self-published tome, which measures 12 x 12 inches. Not only has he expertly condensed hours of interviews into crisp, informative commentaries by a veritable Who s Who of fistiana, he succeeds in brilliantly weaving those commentaries into a historical tapestry framed by a timeline contributed by Michael Rosenthal, editor of The Ring. In terms of immediacy, Choko s timing couldn t be better. Choko s text is crafted with a knowing eye: intelligent, insightful and wonderfully evocative. If the future of boxing is even half as great as The Future of Boxing, we re in for a long ride. --Greig Murray - The Edmonton Sun For Alexandre Choko, the lure was the lore. Alexandre Choko brings more than two decades of experience in and out of the ring to his work on THE FUTURE OF BOXING. A former amateur fighter, Choko retired from the ring to become an independent promoter and ran one of North America s most popular fighting gyms (the renowned Tristar Gym, where he taught for eight years). Among the more than 60 boxing or fighting events that he staged were Choko s Boxing Fight Nights, a very popular karaoke-style event for amateur fighters who wanted to test their skills in front of a crowd. In 2007, Choko embarked on a journey to conduct the series of interviews that resulted in THE FUTURE OF BOXING. He traveled
