Drs. Chambers, Baqri, and Ahuja, all technically-oriented Ph.Ds. with a different set of skills, were drawn together in an unlikely alliance in a mysterious set of circumstances by an employer who was only identified as “HETC.” They were, as a team, offered very lucrative, month-long engagements which involved doing research at HETC’s isolated, underground headquarters located in the California desert near the Nevada border. This, their fourth assignment, was to reverse-engineer a technology called “Quantum Vacuum” (or Zero Point) Electromagnetic Generators which had been discovered in and extracted from a salvaged UFO. The project itself was called “Demeter” after the Greek goddess of the harvest. This project not only joined them again with four “experts,” but also involved a mysterious, participant whose identity they were asked to keep secret. All this was done under the umbrella of one of HETC’s four main projects — The Gliese Project — which was focused on Energy Technologies. Their research culminated in startling conclusions, and the experiences they had during their stay at the underground facility finally brought them all the answers to their questions. I wrote this series to bring to everyone's attention our obsession with technology which is destroying our planet's biosphere and will eventually, in my opinion, bring about the extinction of most species on Earth, both plant and animal, including, of course, our own. Hanging on to the belief that we will soon develop some new technology that will provide us with a free and unlimited source of energy and "save" us is just pure folly. Technology cannot be the solution to our environmental problems - it is the cause. In the meantime, we should not even consider venturing too far into outer space. Until we learn to live both socially and environmentally compatible with the Earth, any attempt to spread our species to other words should not be called "colonizing." It would more accurately be termed"metastasizing." Dr. Sarah Chambers, Dr. Haneefah Baqri, and Dr. RazaAhuja, all technically-oriented Ph.D.s with a different set of skills, first met at a job fair sponsored by the University of California at Berkeley. Their meeting was unplanned and in many respects, coincidental. As a result, however, they were drawn together in an unlikely alliance by a mysterious set of circumstances that was set into motion by an equally mysterious employer who was only identified as "HETC." They were, as a team, offered a very lucrative, month-long engagement which involved doing research at HETC's isolated, underground headquarters located in the California desert near the Nevada border. Their first assignment was to analyze the feasibility of a proposal to develop and deploy space-based, orbiting solar arrays as a future source of energy to help address Earth's rapidly growing and seemingly insatiable appetite for energy. The project was called "Helios" after the Greek god of the Sun. All this was done under the umbrella of one of HETC's four main projects -- The Gliese Project -- which was focused on energy technologies. After completing their first project, 1. Helios, they were asked back to participate in three more projects which involved reverse-engineering technologies found on board a downed and salvaged UFO: 2. "Kratos"(the Greek god of power) - Magnet Pulse Motor Generator (MPMG); 3. "Aeolus"(the Greek god of the winds) - Electrogravitics; 4. "Demeter"(the Greek goddess of the harvest) - Quantum Vacuum Electromagnetic Generators(Zero Point). Their research culminated in startling conclusions, but the experiences they had during their stay at the underground facility left them with more questions than answers. W. D. Smart, "Bill" to his friends, was born and raised in the United States Midwest and later lived in various cities on the West Coast and in the Deep South. He has six adult children and twelve grandchildren. His education includes undergraduate degrees in Liberal Arts, and Computer Science and Engineering. He also has a Master's in Business Administration. For most of his life, Bill's professional focus has been working as an information-technology consultant designing data-based business solutions and building descriptive and predictive analytic models for companies all over the world. His work has allowed him to travel broadly and spend significant time living and working in North and South America, Europe, Africa, India, Australia, and Asia. Bill also holds a USCG Master Captain's License, has worked captaining oil rig supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico, has sailed extensively, and has studied and practiced zen for over fifty years. Bill is now retired and lives in the mountains of Central Thailand where he writes, tends a small farm with his wife on which they grow tamarinds, mangoes, bananas, limes, tapioca, and pepper; and helps manage their rice fields in a nearby valley.
