“WHAT WE DELIVER IS DEATH BY NATURAL CAUSES… ” A murder-for-hire syndicate rises from the ashes of a scandal-ridden university dream research project. By seizing control of the victim’s autonomic nervous system during a dream, a company called Morpheus Research executes high profile assassinations—with a twist. They always appear as death by natural causes. No bullet holes, no stab wounds, no poison. Sean Hastings is a forty-year-old stock broker whose life has become a sad cocktail of insomnia, boredom, and loneliness. While seeking help from a sleep clinic, he runs into an old colleague. He offers Sean a unique solution: an Amazonian psychotropic compound that’s guaranteed to help him sleep. It does far more than that. The chance encounter puts him on a collision course with Morpheus and their powerful global clients. Tangled in a web of shamans, quantum physicists, and foreign intelligence agencies, Sean joins a concerned group of former researchers racing to prevent the assassination of a world leader. To succeed Sean will need to shed his self-imposed doubts and limitations. But for now, he just needs to stay alive. In The Gods of Sleep, a profound metaphysical discovery is threatened by those only interested in greed, power, and murder. In his debut novel, Robert Mix takes readers on a rollercoaster ride that challenges us to accept that there is more to this world than we can see. 5-STAR READER'S FAVORITE REVIEW "Sometimes the truth has a dark side," and the depth of that darkness is the only question. The Gods of Sleep by Robert Mix provides a good insight into the darkness of truth through the story of Sean Hastings, a materialistic insomniac. Despite all his efforts, Sean can't get a good night's sleep. Finally, he discovers relief in an experimental drug obtained from a friend. Sleep comes at last, but so do dreams of a new kind. Some dreams foretell the future, others are perplexing, and all are dangerous. Seeking answers to his questions, Sean joins forces with some newfound allies who reveal an unrealized power for Sean and a dangerous foe who uses dreams to kill. Daemon Adler is that murderous foe, and he is the worst class of villain - one who doesn't understand that he is one. The Gods of Sleep by Robert Mix is a captivating story that reminded me of the 1984 film Dreamscape. However, it is also a skillfully devised, original, and dynamic tale in execution. The plot is intricate and revolves around a conspiracy, but it also explores the protagonist's journey to finding purpose and realizing what truly matters in life. The novel's pace is impeccable, fast enough to be engaging without becoming overwhelming. The characters are well- rounded and possess unexpected quirks that make them stand out. They also have a few secrets that enhance immersion and make them intriguing individuals. Overall, The Gods of Sleep is an excellent read that will appeal to fans of thrillers, conspiracies, and adventures. BookLife says "This well-paced thriller blends sci-fi and metaphysics through the concept of the evil Morpheus organization specializing in assassination through dream agents. Though the plot may feel familiar to genre fans, the story is intriguing, with plenty of potential for future installments." BOOK LIFE REVIEW: "...well-paced thriller blends sci-fi and metaphysics through the concept of the evil Morpheus organization specializing in assassination through dream agents. The most compelling part of the novel is in its unlikely hero Sean Hastings-and his cohort at the Center for Change Potential--who foil a dangerous political plot."
