Clear and concise summary of over 23 years research into the writing of the Bible. Initially, the search was begun with the hope of proving that the Bible and its teachings are correct and unique. What was found was not expected! The archeological and historic sources paint a rather different picture than the accepted norm. As the author states, "The facts far outweigh the fiction, and, by the way, are much more interesting." The God worshipped by the Hebrews/Judeans Yahweh, was an ancient Pagan god. Jesus became God at a vote of the Council of Nicea in 325. The number of "The Beast" of Revelation was originally 616.There were no Gospels and Epistles in Christianity until the end of the second century. Excellent!! You struck a very good balance between giving useful information and sticking your finger in the eye of those who prefer delusion to knowledge.- Joe Bailie, Pollock, LA "The Gospel Truth: ..." puts a lot of myths to rest ... what a wealth of new information. A must for everyone interested in expanding their knowledge. Alexander Holub, the Author, is on top of his game. -Bonnie Lange, Publisher, Truth Seeker When I was in my mid-20s I dated the daughter of an itinerant evangelical minister. One day she was working and her father invited me to one of his home meetings. At that meeting I was "saved." At that point I began looking into the Bible. I wanted to prove that everything in it was correct. Unfortunately, the deeper I delved into ancient history and ancient writings the less I found in the Bible that was factual and the more I found that was lifted from older texts. What I found was that the Bible isn't a history book and many of the stories were taken from the mythology of the area. It seems that the Bible was never intended to be a history book. Yes, there are some events that coincide with events written in the Bible. But overall, history doesn't verify the vast majority of Biblical events. What we see in the Bible when events coincide is a lot of reporter bias and differences in interpretation based on the Biblical writer. It is important to realize that different groups wrote different parts of the Bible. Hence, after gathering a lot of information and placing it in memory I began writing it down. When I began putting it down I noticed that what I had could be considered heretical. This is when I found the title for the book: The Gospel Truth: The Heresy of History . This book is compilation of historical facts that have been known for many decades and in some instances centuries. Since the publishing of this book (1999) a lot more data have been found. But it does not disprove the historical statements in The Gospel Truth:... . Quite the contrary, much of the new information simply adds to it. This book is written for one who is searching just as I was (and still am). It gives you a point at which to start and insight into the people and times when it was originally written. In the Bibliography are a number of books to look into to continue your search and which can direct you into recent books to consider.
