Near the beginning of the 20th Century, an exceptional young couple who were engaged to be married, made a very courageous decision to establish a claim and settle on a Homestead in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. They decided to Homestead instead of waiting for a promise made earlier that could never be kept and through no fault of their own. There was no way to fix it so they made a pact with each other that they would never speak to any one of this broken promise, and not let it come between them, ever. Because of their determination to overcome any adversity, their life as originally intended would be changed forever. The journey of their lives would not become known to family members until more than a century later, long after both of them had passed away, including all their children but one, their youngest daughter, Ruby.
