The Helping Network: How to Ask for Help When You Need It…and Give Help When You Can We all face seasons when life feels overwhelming—illness, loss, or unexpected change. In those moments, help from others can make all the difference. Yet asking for help feels hard, and offering help isn’t always simple. The Helping Network bridges that gap. With wisdom from pastors, healthcare advocates, caregivers, and community leaders, Abigail DeHart has created a practical, compassionate guide that shows both sides how to connect. Inside, you’ll discover: How to ask for help without feeling like a burden - Ways to organize support so it’s easy for others to show up - Simple, meaningful ideas for friends, neighbors, and communities who want to help but don’t know how - Real stories and perspectives from those who’ve been there—both givers and receivers of care This book is filled with step-by-step guidance, heartfelt insights, and creative solutions you can put into action right away. Whether you’re the one in need or the one eager to give, The Helping Network will help you build connections that bring comfort, strength, and hope. Because helping others isn’t just about them—it’s also a gift to you. About the Author My name is Abigail DeHart. I’m a senior at Newton-Conover High School in Newton, North Carolina. I’m actively involved in my school community through organizations like Beta Club and the National Honor Society, and I serve as the President of the Catawba County Youth Council. I come from a proud Scouting family and started my own journey as a Girl Scout Daisy when I was five. My two older brothers earned their Eagle Scout ranks, and my sister completed her Gold Award. I love working with people and staying busy. I spend my summers as a camp counselor at Camp Linn Haven (a Lutheran church camp) and have worked as a waitress at Catawba Country Club for almost two years. I also run a small business called Girl Friday Services, where I help local families with babysitting, elder care, pet sitting, light housekeeping, and errands. Outside of work and school, I play tennis for Newton-Conover and find so much joy in being part of a team. I plan to pursue a degree in elementary education in 2026 because I truly love working with kids and hope to make a difference in their lives.
