After the conclusion of WWII, high school girl’s basketball in North Carolina began to hit its heyday. The popularity of the game actually exceeded that of the boy’s game in many rural and small high schools. The development of the game was championed Mr. Robert E. Lee, who was coach of the Aberdeen Red Devils sextet and arguably the top girl’s coach of the two-divisional game in the state. He was unquestionably the number one proponent for the expansion of competitive basketball in the state for high school girls. Coach Lee was the brain trust who was primarily responsible for establishing the first high school girl’s basketball challenge game held in Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh as well as the first competitive state championship tournament in North Carolina for high school girls’ basketball. The Red Devil girls set a record of eight straight Moore County championships/tournaments, won the state title in 1953, were runner-up in 1950 and came in fourth in 1950. The game as played during these extraordinary times slowly drifted into obscurity in the late ‘60’s with the consolidation of the schools. Until now, little, if any, records were maintained of this important era of high school girls’ athletics. Included are team pictures, results of the Moore County Tournament, results of the East-West All-Star game, results of the state championship games, All-State selections plus much more.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
