This second book of short stories covers times and events when ordinary folk had to deal with the aftermath. Men were called to arms to become reluctant heroes, while at home their loved ones coped with hard times and longed for peace. The tales move on to better but still challenging times as, over the years, they deal with a wide variety of characters, some honest and others not so. From a less complicated age, some people involved here were real, but the yarns built around them are works of a stretched imagination. The pages quickly turn to touch on humour, skullduggery, sensitivity and a little romance in middle England over several decades. Bill Labron was born and raised in the Midlands City of Coventry at a time when WW2 was still very much in the memories of those who survived. The aftermath of war was borne with fortitude and will to rebuild, and as a young tradesman he did his share, becoming a Freeman of the City in 1960.His short-story writing is his way of keeping many colourful characters from his world alive. Also to remind himself and others that ordinary people were the heroes.Bill immigrated to Canada in 1975 and lives with his wife in Victoria, BC.Thank you Lynda for all your patience and labour in producing this book. Also for just being you.
