In the book The Idiot, the stunning young lady born in an aristocratic family of 1860s, Nastasya, has suffered from the ravage of the landlord for many years. The young Duke Prince Myshkin, who was reckoned as an idiot, was willing to marry Nastasya unconditionally. Nastasya was deeply moved. Though she was deeply in love with the Duke, she ran away with the playboy Rogozhin. Nastasya was killed at last. The novel makes a wide depiction of Russian upper class after the reform of serfdom. The content involves complicated psychological and ethical problems. The kind and tolerant Duke Myshkin could neither exert influence on people around, nor bring benefits to them. The failure of this Quixotic like figure reflects the writers disillusionment of saving the world with faith and love.
