Ignatious Nathan Gann, the son of Adam Gann and his wife, Jane Abel, was born in Virginia in 1759. He fought in the Revolutionary War, including the Battle of King's Mountain and the Battle of Boyd's Creek, and was married four times: to an unknown woman, to Susan, to Polly, and finally to Sarah Delaney. He was the father of at least nineteen children. Information on many of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is given in this volume. Nathan moved his family from colonial Virginia to Tennessee and to North Carolina. Later family members moved to Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, and eventually to California by the 1850's. He died on 18 July 1839, at the age of 80 years, at home on his farm along the south bank of the Nolichucky River in Washington County, Tennessee, where he was believed to have been buried. Nathan's military grave marker was later relocated to the New Salem Cemetery. Other families mentioned are: Brumley, Layman/Lemon/Lemons, LaFollett/Follett, Massengill, Clark, Hicks, Harmon, Whistler, Green, Good, Whistler, Smith, and Delaney.
