A trade paperback anthology of the webcomic The Inexplicable Adventures of Bob! Bob Smithson was the world's most average man... until the day he became a Weirdness Magnet. Now, spaceships crash into his roof, unicorns nibble his lawn, or world-destroying bombs get left on his doorstep every day. He's handling it surprisingly well, with a combination of kindness, common sense, and being too dense to be as scared as he should be. This volume collects the original four storylines which first ran in print form in the Penn State Science Fiction Society's Explosive Decompression and Hostigos from Nov. 1993 to May 1997: "The Fickle Finger of Fate:" A flying saucer crashes into Bob's roof, inaugurating Bob into the realms of the bizarre. The first appearance of Princess Voluptua. "Boxhunt:" Bob is entrusted with a mysterious box, and then runs afoul of both a fire-breathing dragon and the government. "Molly's Tale:" Bob meets his neighbor, whose lab accident suddenly comes to cute, pink, furry life. Molly's origin and Jean's first appearance. "The Return of Princess Voluptua:" Bob and Jean's first date is interrupted by Voluptua's return from space with a friendly warning of impending annihilation. A review of the webcomic: "I must say I'm impressed with how long this one's been running, though with long comics, it can be hard to pick one single thing as its best feature. So I'm going to say it's a toss-up between the cast and the humor. Really, the two are linked by design because so many of the jokes are built around how everyone reacts so differently to the strange goings-on. Even some of the more flat characters, ones that exist for the same running gag over and over again, are entertaining when they do pop up, especially when their one-note gimmick gets played around with for even more laughs. Then again, it's the truly 'out-there' characters with huge personalities that are the most fun to see. They get dropped like rats into a very, very weird maze and we get to see their varied reactions and the means they use to get out of it. And boy does there seem to be no end to the manner of maze or escape. Everything goes and it goes to the most creative extremes, whether the cast likes it or not. Of course, we can't forget the protagonist, either. Bob makes a good foil for everyone, being a relatively mellow everyman whose somewhat resigned yet goodnatured acceptance to the strangeness in his life has plenty of comedic value all on its own. Seriously though, props to [Cleaveland] for keeping this going so long and never losing that sense of playful charm." — melaredblu, creator of the webcomic The Refraction of Princess Chroma A review of the webcomic: "I actually really enjoyed [the] comic and quickly got into it... and I got a lot of chuckles out of it. I particularly love names like Oswald Blivious Bystander or Heywood J. Lookathat. There is some amount of filler art but due to comic being so long it doesn't feel like it's overused. Only critique I could have is that some pages were kinda hard to get around and the pictures were slightly too small at the beginning, but these issues are fixed later. Overall, it is a really enjoyable comic with some warmth in it." — Zero Hour, creator of the webcomic The Adventures of Sir Power An anthology of the webcomic The Inexplicable Adventures of Bob! by Jim Cleaveland Bob Smithson was the world's most average man... until the day he became a Weirdness Magnet.
