La Befana is a friendly Italian witch that brings toys to good children every year on the night of January 5th. Legend has it that three wise men knocked on La Befana’s door to ask for shelter and directions to Bethlehem. She was asked to accompany them, but she said she had too much cleaning to do. When she finished her chores, the three wise men were too far away to join them on their journey. Later that night, La Befana was awoken by an unusually bright light. Startled and afraid, she knew it was a sign to follow the Magi in search of the Baby Jesus.
