In 1938, the year German troops invaded Austria and Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds premiered, Captain Phillip Bradley was born in a meager home in the coal-mining town of Jenkins. Owned and operated by Consolidated Coal Company, the town had its very own form of currency, houses were supplied based on the worker’s station, and sirens would sound in codes for the citizens, alerting them to any cave-ins at the mines. From these humble beginnings, and his father’s long hours and sacrifice, Phillip grew to graduate high school, receive a scholarship for football, and eventually become a pilot, business owner, and entrepreneur in real estate and resorts. The Life of a Coal Miner’s Son is his story from small-town life, to adventures in the skies and friendships with prominent figures throughout the world.
