This book profiles some of the significant families that contributed to the Lippincott ancestry in New Jersey. Most emanated from families that arrived in America in the 17th and 18th centuries. They helped establish communities in the wilderness and planted the seeds for vigorous growth of subsequent generations. Almost all of them were Quakers in search of religious freedom. Some of them had suffered persecution in England and Massachusetts. All had the conviction they could build a better world in America. They arrived in three distinct groups: Shrewsbury Group . The first to arrive were the Quakers who settled in Shrewsbury, New Jersey in about 1665, including the families of Allen, Corlies, Lippincott, Shattuck, Stout, Tilton, Woolley, and others. Many were part of the Great Puritan Migration and had lived in Massachusetts Bay Colony where they suffered persecution as Quakers. Most arrived through Rhode Island and Long Island on their way to Shrewsbury, which was the first English town established in New Jersey, along with its neighbor Middletown. Fenwick Group . Arriving next in America were the Quakers who came with John Fenwick on the ship Griffin in 1675 and shortly thereafter settled Fenwick’s Colony in and around Salem in West New Jersey. These include the families of Dickeson, Fenwick, Hall, Nicholson, Smith, and others. Burlington Group . The third group to arrive were Quakers who came on the ship Kent in 1677 or shortly thereafter and settled in Burlington. These include the families of Borton, Bunting, Butcher, Burr, Folwell, Reeves, Ridgway, Wetherill, Wills, and others.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
