It's the end of the world as we know it! Do you know where your icons are? At the edge of the universe sits The Long John Cafe. A place where the average guy and the average "Super" guy and can sit and have a cup of coffee and just be themselves or, someone else if that's what they want. The cafe is populated by iconic figures of the 20th Century including cowboys, hippies, super heroes and movie stars. They've come to celebrate the end of the century and the beginning of tomorrow! That is, if they make it through the night. Because the evil Dr. McNastiman has other plans for our heroes. Like their total destruction! Can anyone say..BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!??Cast Size: 17 roles with 9M/8F. Running Time: 90 minutes.Royalty: $50.00 per performance.Appropriate for all audiences. The idea for this play came to me when I was 17 years old. I saw a picture called Boulevard of Broken Dreams which featured Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Humphrey Bogart in a cafe together. About this same time I went to Daytona Beach for a Spring Break trip. This was back in those days when Daytona Beach was still the "hip" place for young people to go and get wild in front of the MTV crew. (Is there still an MTV?) Anyway, I got one of those t-shirts that featured a crowd partying on it. In the crowd, interspersed with the bikini clad babes were characters like Godzilla, Mr. Potato Head, Elvis, Mr. Spock, Richard Nixon, etc... I thought, what a great idea for a play! Thus was born The Long John Cafe . The greatest icons of the 20th Century, gathered together one last time before the universe, their universe anyway, blinks out of existence. This is a great play for High School and College audienes, and gives actors a chance to play these wonderful iconic characters of the last century. Enjoy!!! Colonel L.
